What Are Platform Catalogs?

To run campaigns with desired templates, those templates must be part of a Meta catalog, which you would typically create through Commerce Manager. In Hunch, this process is automated - when you publish templates, Hunch automatically creates Platform Catalogs within your Hunch catalog. These entities allow you to seamlessly assign and use templates in dynamic ad campaigns through Hunch, without the need for manual catalog creation.

The Platform Catalogs page serves as a repository for viewing platform catalogs, primarily for checking sync status and previewing assigned templates. It requires minimal attention, except when reviewing templates in multi-template catalogs if the template limit is exceeded.

🌟 Snapchat support is coming soon.

How Platform Catalogs Are Created and Managed?

1. Authorization and Destination Setup

To enable platform catalogs, users must authorise Meta and configure destination details during the [catalog creation process].

2. Publishing and Auto-Assigning Templates

Templates are automatically assigned to platform catalogs when published with at least one square artboard. If a story artboard is also included, it enables features like Adapt to Placement. Hunch creates both multi-template and dynamic media catalogs to ensure full flexibility in campaign setup:

  • Multi-template catalogs – Created initially and updated with each new compatible template. Supports only square artboards.

  • Dynamic media catalogs – Created for each published template, supporting story artboards and CPV packages.

Once synced, templates are ready for campaign creation in Hunch. See Types of Platform Catalogs below for more details.

3. (Optional) Adding CPV Packages

If using CPV, you can pair CPV packages with image templates during setup. Once linked, videos in square, portrait, and story formats are added to the dynamic media catalog and ready for campaigns. See CPV article for details.

4. Reviewing Platform Catalogs

Once Platform Catalogs are created, users can monitor sync status (1.) and preview catalog details including assigned templates (2.) from the Platform Catalogs page.

Types of Platform Catalogs

Catalog Type

Description

Usage Highlights

Multi-Template Catalog

Contains up to 19 templates in square format. Created once and updated with each new compatible template.

Used when the campaign requires only static image assets and template selection at the campaign level.

Dynamic Media Catalog

Created for each published template, supporting square and story formats (for Adapt to Placement) and CPV videos in 3 placements (square, portrait, and story).

Used when campaigns include dynamic media assets (e.g., CPV videos) or when the ‘Adapt to Placement’ option is used.

Why Use Each Type?

  • Multi-Template Catalogs

    • Ideal for retargeting campaigns, preventing competition between ad sets.

    • Enable simple testing by rotating up to 19 templates without A/B testing.

    • Showcase different offers in a single campaign without increasing CPMs.

  • Dynamic Media Catalogs

    • Ensure creative consistency across placements, avoiding native platform cropping.

    • Support Adapt to Placement to meet Meta’s recommendations.

    • Include CPV-ready templates with videos in square, portrait, and story formats.

Common Issues and Solutions

Issue

Solution

Templates published before Meta authorization are not assigned to catalogs.

Republish the templates after completing authorization to assign them to platform catalogs.

CPV package videos are not appearing in the campaign.

Ensure the image template has been paired with a CPV package. Verify CPV-compliant formats and product item limits.

Templates are not appearing in campaigns immediately.

Ensure platform catalogs are synced successfully. Check for sync errors in the sync log and resolve any detected issues.
