CPV adds product videos to your catalog ads. You design a video template once, and Hunch turns it into a short video for each product in your catalog, using the product's own image, price and details. Those videos run in the same ads as your image templates, so Meta can show video where it performs best, such as Reels and Stories.
Before you start
Requirement | Why it's needed | Where to set it up |
Template Collections plan with the CPV add-on | Adding video templates to a collection or enriched feed needs CPV. CPV isn't available on the Enriched Feeds plan. | Turn on CPV in Admin settings. See How Hunch Light pricing works. |
At least one image template in the collection | Every Hunch ad uses an image template. Video is added on top of it. |
You can build video templates on any plan. CPV is only needed when you add them to a template collection or an enriched feed.
CPV is priced by item-count bracket, like your plan. For prices, see catalogvideo.ai.
What you get with CPV
Up to 6 video templates in each template collection.
Up to 3 artboards per video template: Square, Portrait and Story.
Video in enriched feeds too, for Meta and TikTok feeds. The Template Collections plan includes 2 enriched feeds per Hunch catalog, and each can have one video template.
How your videos get to Meta
You don't need to manage any of this yourself, but it helps to know what happens behind the scenes, especially when you're waiting for a new video to appear.
You add a video template to a collection. Nothing is rendered yet.
Hunch creates each video when it's needed, instead of producing a video for every product in your catalog upfront. This keeps large catalogs fast, and it means you don't wait for your whole catalog to render before you can publish. (You may see this called on-demand rendering.)
Each product in the catalog points to its video. When your collection syncs, Meta receives a link to every product's video alongside its images and product data.
Meta collects and processes the videos. Meta downloads each video and prepares it for its placements. This takes some time, so new videos don't show up in ads immediately.
How Meta uses your videos
Image and video go into one ad. When you choose both an image template and a video template in Connect Ads, Hunch publishes them as a single ad.
Meta decides what to show. For each placement and each person, Meta picks the format it expects to perform best. Video tends to be favoured in Reels and Stories.
All artboards are used by default. The ad uses every artboard in your video template, so each placement gets the right shape. Keep it this way for the best results, especially in Reels.
Products without a ready video show the image. Until Meta has a product's video ready, that product appears with your image template instead.
Changing a video template
When you edit a video template that's already in use, the videos for every product are created again and Meta has to collect them again. Your ads aren't edited, so they don't go back into the learning phase, but the new design takes a while to appear everywhere.
With large catalogs, make video changes well ahead of important sales periods.
Tips
Give every video template all three artboards. Missing shapes are filled by Meta's automatic cropping, which can cut off your products or text.
Turn off creative enhancements in the Connect Ads editor, so Meta doesn't alter your videos.
Check before going live. Publish the ad as paused, then use Show ad in Connect Ads to see how the video looks.
Allow time after publishing. If a video isn't showing yet, Meta is most likely still processing it.
If CPV ends
If you turn off CPV but stay on Template Collections:
Your collections and enriched feeds keep syncing, without video.
Videos are gradually removed from Meta. Your ads keep running with your image templates.
Enriched feeds no longer include video. On TikTok, ads using your enriched feed stop getting video assets.
Video templates already assigned are locked. You can't change or remove them from their collections while CPV is off.
If your Template Collections plan ends (downgrade, cancellation or failed payment), the whole collection stops syncing, not just the video. See Turning off add-ons, How downgrades work and Why is syncing paused?.
Troubleshooting
What you see | What to do |
I can't add a video template to my collection | Turn on CPV in Admin settings. You also need the Template Collections plan. |
I can't add another video template | The collection already has 6 video templates. Remove one, or create another collection. |
My ad shows images but no video | Meta is probably still collecting and processing the videos. Give it some time and check again with Show ad. |
Some products show video and others don't | Videos are created and processed product by product, so they appear gradually. |
My video changes aren't showing in ads | Every product's video has to be created and collected again. Wait for the sync to finish and for Meta to process the new videos. |
I can't edit or remove a video template | CPV is off, so assigned video templates are locked. Turn CPV back on to change them. |
Common questions
Do I need to render my whole catalog before I can publish? No. Videos are created when they're needed, so you can publish straight away.
Can I show more than one product in a video? No. That's not how catalog ads work. Each card in a catalog ad shows a single item, so one card is one video, and one video is one product.
Can I run video without an image template? No. Every Hunch ad uses an image template. Video is added to the same ad.
Can I choose where video shows instead of images? No. Meta decides per placement and per person. Using all artboards gives it the best options.
Can I use video with enriched feeds? Yes, on Meta and TikTok, with the Template Collections plan and CPV. Each enriched feed can have one video template. CPV isn't available on the Enriched Feeds plan. Meta uses all three artboards, and TikTok uses the Story artboard. See Enriched feeds.
